Three Alden Dow Homes for Sale

From time to time Alden Dow homes come up for sale.  Currently, there are three on the market.

Two in Midland:

The Ashmun Residence, 11 Snowfield Court

Sometimes referred to as the Timber Teepee...the windows and skylights in this home truly integrates you with nature.  "In this house, nestled among pines, the form has been put to good use to bring light from above. Glazing between the sloping beams lets sunlight into the rooms dappling the floor just as it filters through the trees in the surrounding woods." House Beautiful.

The Bennett Residence, 1015 W. Sugnet

In pristine condition, this home has been in the family since first built.  The majestic living room, although overlooking the Midland Country Club golf course, is very private due to the over hanging roof and landscaping. The house has generous built-ins, including sofa's and tables. Imaginative lighting is a Dow signature. In the dining room of the Bennett home, a glass & wood canopy over the dining table area provides enchantment as well as illumination. This home is truly an architectural treasure.

One in East Tawas:

The Jameson Residence, 46 E. Sanctuary

This custom designed home is filled with architectural beauty and convenience.  As you enter the slate foyer leads you to the stunning formal living room with stone hearth and fireplace.  The room is graced with 12' ceilings and a wall of glass with incredible views of Silver Creek Pond situated 50' below.  Every room is filled with a bounty of glass bringing nature into the home and gracing it with light…a treasure not to be missed.

U of M Faculty to visit in May 2010

Posted by: regina |

Several University of Michigan faculty members plan to visit the Alden B. Dow Home and Studio in May 2010.  Midland is just one of the many sites they plan to explore throughout the state of Michigan in their week long experience; researching all of our great resources.  Resources that can be utilized to facilitate research for their students, their school and themselves as they grow in their academic fields.

Welcome to our blog!

Welcome to Yet another Blog!

Kind of an oxymoron to work at a historical architecture site yet create a blog - a product of our fast pace, forward thinking, technological age - but that’s exactly what we are venturing into!  Alden B. Dow designed for his present day clients, but always looked to the future when it came to ideas, materials, and innovations.  So a blog actually fits nicely into his own philosophy and forward reaching approach to design.

In the era of Web 2.0 where the user no longer is just the passive recipient of information, but rather an active and meaningful participant, we hope to open the door to the many open ended possibilities a blog has to offer;  whether we write about the Home and Studio architecture itself, the incredible design within this 20,000 foot structure (furniture designers, ceramists, rare books, etc.), issues related to historic or contemporary architecture, current teaching practices in museum education (an umbrella term for all museum, architecture or history related sites), or reflections on engaging events that have happened here at the Home and Studio.

We are eager to hear your responses to our entries, topic ideas for blog entries, feedback on our site offerings, and your general participation in this new and exciting online journey.

Here’s to our new blog!

Thank you!
