Alden B. Dow - Midwestern Modern

This book traces Alden B. Dow's life and work as well as the intensely personal philosophy that governed everything he did: houses, churches, schools, business and civic structures, and even a new town in Texas. Dow changed the face of his hometown of Midland, Michigan, leaving more than one hundred buildings, including his Home and Studio, a National Historic Landmark.

Great News!!!  We are making our mark on Michigan!!!

December 8, 2007 - "Coffee-table decor books will delight long after the holidays are history"  Marge Colborn, The Detroit News, has named Alden B. Dow:  Midwestern Modern one of her Top 10 Favorite Coffee-table Books for the 2007 holiday season.

December 17, 2007 - The library of Michigan has named Alden B. Dow:  Midwestern Modern one of the 2008 Michigan Notable Books.  Nancy R. Robertson, State Librarian writes, "...The program honors and promotes quality publications about the State of Michigan or the Great Lakes, written by a Michigan author, or set in Michigan."  Over 300 titles were discussed and only 20 were chosen to best represent "our state's diverse, ethnic, historical, literary, and cultural experience."

Both designations are a great honor for the staff of the Alden B. Dow Home and Studio, writer Diane Maddex and designer Robert Wiser.
