Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Classes
The life and legacy of Alden B. Dow and his family act as a springboard for IB (International Baccalaureate) Theory of Knowledge students as they consider the course’s Twelve Key Concepts and Areas of Knowledge. The Home & Studio’s inspirational architecture enhances the learning experience by immersing students in a variety of spaces throughout the year, fostering critical thinking and creativity. Throughout two semesters, students explore the Alden B. Dow Home & Studio inside and out, where its innovative design encourages learning by presenting diverse perspectives, promoting open-mindedness, and fostering empathy and understanding. Students attend weekly for one year.
Bay Arenac Career Center Engineering & Drafting Program
In partnership with the Bay Arenac Career Center, students engage in hands-on study of the Alden B. Dow Home & Studio. They measure spaces in detail, analyze Mr. Dow’s original drawings and floor plans in the Archives, and create precise 3D models using advanced drafting software and 3D printing technology. This partnership provides an invaluable opportunity for students within an architecturally complex National Historic Landmark.
